Microneedling
Microneedling is a dermaroller procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin. The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
Procedure
Each fine needle punctures the skin, and creates a channel or micro-wound. Controlled injury triggers the body to fill these micro-wounds by inducing new collagen and elastin production in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed.
This neovascularisation and neocollagenesis following treatment will lead to a reduction of scars. Leaving skin rejuvenated, with improved skin texture, firmness and hydration.
Sessions
The number of microneedling procedures needed depends on the individual skin condition. For moderate acne scars, three to four treatments may be needed. Scars caused by Thermal burns as well as stretch marks may require up to 5 procedures.
Wrinkles associated with skin ageing would require one or two refresher skin needling treatments.
Results and Aftercare
Skin needling is a well tolerated treatment. Patients may experience dryness, scaling, redness and swelling that lasts for several days or longer after treatment, depending on the depth of penetration of the needles. Sun protection is recommended for several weeks after procedure. In the case of acne scars, the face should be cleaned with a gentle cleanser before bed.
The next day, the face may be cleansed and makeup, lotions and other topical products applied as usual. Postoperative wound infection is rare, as the microholes close quickly. Your skins rejuvenation will be seen as soon as 2 weeks and for as long as 6-8 months after treatment. Burn scars respond at a slower rate. A single treatment will take up to 6 months to 1 year before final results will show.
